Female tattoo artists

So, a friend of mine suggested I try out for a new tattoo show coming out and my first response to that was that I did not want to because I felt too fat for TV..then another friend in the industry asked me the same question , she also felt the same way about her looks, but the sad thing is that the first and second friend both female tattoo artist, actually amazing artist were to insecure about our looks to showcase our talents...
I later was drawn to a female tattoo artist that is on TV and saw all her albums contained mostly modeling pics, and the one album of her actual work was just ok, nothing great or spectacular, yet she is all over the place..so the question came into my mind, is why is it we dont see male tattoo artist on tattoo magazines, tv and ads wearing sexy briefs, half naked like with the female tattoo artists? Women are always viewed differently no matter what the field is.. In an industry where the only thing that should matter is your work, we now find the issue of showcasing the men for the work and the women in bikini tops, with mediocre work....I know some of you think Im talking about Kat Von D and , yes she is guilty of exploiting herself half naked everywhere too but she actually is a great artist, I would have felt her more credible if she kept her clothes on... As women why do we feel we have to focus so much on heavy applications of make up, hair, gym etc just to do art? Half  the guys in the industry have pot bellys , going bald, greasy hair and straggly beards etc, but  they get recognition solely for the work they do, as it should be for women...It really makes no sense to me that I could tattoo circles around a couple of the " TV" tattoo artists and the general public will think they are the shit simply because of TV..Lame.....I really wish real artist like Hannah and Kim were still on, they had little drama and kept it real..
Does what your artist look like make a difference in what their work looks like?
